Tribeca Film Festival Review: “The Scars Of Ali Boulala” Is One Of Those Films That Makes You Reflect On How Precious Life Really Is

Ali Boulala became legendary in the ’90s for being the most eccentric skateboarder of his time. In 2007, Ali and teammate Shane Cross were in a tragic motorcycle accident. Both were heavily intoxicated when Ali drove into a wall while Shane was riding on the back. Ali ended up in a coma, and Shane was killed immediately. Today, Ali is sober after years of substance abuse.

Ali Boulala became a pro skateboarding legend in the 1990s, living the life any young adult would dream of. With fame, money, and no supervision, he and his peers eventually became slaves to the drug culture. After a night of drinking, a tragic accident took the life of a friend and left him in a coma.

Years later, the young man who was once as fearless as they come still struggles to put the pieces of his life back together. With intimate footage of his childhood along with interviews by those who knew him well, this documentary gives you a glimpse of a beautiful life that slowly comes crashing down. This documentary brings laughter, excitement, pain, and tears and is one of those stories that makes you reflect on how precious life really is.

“The Scars of Ali Boulala” recently had its World Premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival
