Movie Review: “Little Monsters” = A Bad Zombie Comedy With Excessive Cursing At Children = Totally Disappointing

A washed-up musician teams up with a teacher and a kids show personality to protect young children from a sudden outbreak of zombies.

The film starts off like a romantic comedy where there are a series of intense argument scenes between longtime couple Dave (Alexander England) and Sara (Nadia Townsend). Finally, Dave leaves their home and ends up staying with his sister Tess (Kat Stewart) and her 5-year-old son Felix (Diesel La Torraca). As a washed-up band member who hasn’t played in 6 years with no other employment, he refuses to take his life seriously until he falls for his nephew’s teacher Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o).

When a parent cancels as a school trip chaperone, Dave volunteers in order to be close to Miss Caroline. This is the point where the movie takes an unexpected turn. Suddenly, the scene cuts to men at a military base and I am just confused wondering what just happened to the story? So apparently the military has identified man-eating zombies that have just escaped and oh wait, not only have they just escaped but they are on their way to the same place where the children are having their school trip!

When Miss Caroline, Dave, and the children arrive at the farm, they are greeted by a beloved TV character named Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad). The children just love him as he sings their favorite songs and entertains them until the zombies land and he locks himself safely inside the only place they can hide. Miss Caroline and Dave fight their way in along with the children and then we start to see his ugly side. Teddy McGiggle turns out to be a miserable drunk, who excessively disrespects and curses at the children while little Felix turns out to be the true hero, using his imagination and bravery to save everyone from the zombies.

I literally cannot understand how a movie that starts off with a couple fighting turns into a movie about zombies eating people while a children’s television character is the most disgusting person in the narrative. This movie has a weak story, terrible jokes where they make fun of disabled children and, overall, just not funny or entertaining.
