From the underground scene of the most radical and fascinating city in the world comes the revolutionary story of four transgender activists, their fierce struggle and emotional fight to create an identity of their own.
This film takes you on an intimate journey of four legendary underground artists and trans activists who refused to conform to society. Shot over a ten-year span, this is a deep exploration of their individual experiences in New York City as they carve out their own paths becoming icons in their own right.
Delving into the alternative underground nightlife of art, fashion and music, transgender model, actress, and muse Amanda Lepore, reveals how it all began working as a dominatrix, then joining the club kid scene to becoming a well-known icon. Chloe Dzubilo, who performed with a band called TranSisters & The Goddess of Rock, was one of the first to publicly talk about HIV in her lyrics which transformed the stigma and negativity surrounding the disease. As a strong activist and educator of HIV/AIDS and transgender rights, she began creating art as her voice to magnify injustice toward the community. Her partner T De Long, a non-conforming rap and performance artist, encouraged her while struggling to find his own place creatively. Sophia Lamar, who immigrated from Cuba, created avant-garde performances becoming one of the most famous club kids in the scene.
