Movie Review: “Charlie’s Angels” Delivers Lots Of Action But A Weak Storyline

When a young systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, Charlie’s Angels are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect us all.

I love a good action film and this one delivers with some really great fight scenes but it misses the very thing an audience needs which is a strong story. An energy source is secretly being sold to the black market to be used as a weapon. When Scientist Elena (Naomi Scott), who works for the company, discovers a dangerous glitch that needs to be repaired, she is denied further research by her boss who informs her to keep quiet. After being tracked by Edgar (Djimon Hounsou), a higher-up on Charlie’s team who tries to protect her and get to the energy source before it is sold, her life is now in danger as the bad guys are on to her.

As they close in on Elena, she barely escapes with Edgar who dies during a car chase that leads them into the water. Rescued by one of the Angels, Elena is now part of the team and joins Sabina (Kristen Stewart), Jane (Ella Balinksa) and Bosley (Elizabeth Banks), who are on a mission to track down the men who are involved in the plan to black-market the dangerous energy source. We later discover that the person in charge of the whole operation is none other than someone very close to the girls. After a lot of fight scenes, silly jokes and fabulous outfits, they finally discover who it is.

This film was good on the action and was very women-driven, which I like, but it’s also very predictable and lacked a strong story.
