TV Review: “#Washed” Gives 30-Somethings Another Chance At Greatness And A Different Mindset To Accompany It

“#Washed” is a coming-of-age dramedy series based in Dallas, Texas about a group of conflicted millennials feeling the pressures of adulthood. In the midst of a quarter-life crisis, they find themselves at a crossroads, too old to be dreamers but young enough to accomplish their youthful desires.

Dallas’ own all-black cast of adults in the series “#Washed,” who have seemingly reached an age plateau in their thirties, has made a great impression on its followers in the metroplex as well as on a grand scale. Creator Jerod Couch has been given an Emmy nod for his own telling of the path in life he was going down until he realized that he had more options than was originally given to him. In a round table discussion, two of the cast members and three of the crew members sat down to give its audience the telling story of how “#Washed” has evolved from its first episodes of general principles into a world-class awakening of life after thirty.

Jerod Couch admitted that the characters and the show’s plot grew monumentally as more resources became available during filming. Adding an experienced leader in the film industry and realizing the value of a cast member who became a set designer has been integral to the show’s growth and popularity. The years-long relationship between the director and cast members has also been a key part in developing characters that were a part of their neighborhood growing up and they both have used ideas to bounce off one another to keep the storylines from being stagnated.

Creator Jerod Couch’s youthful exuberance was on full display during the interview as he gave a compassionate rendition of how he had to find his purpose once again in life after reaching the age of thirty and not being able to have a solid footing on his career choices and his path to success on the road that did not appear to line up as he had planned. He also shared that his wife was a good source for the scripting as she too, met challenges as an African-American woman in the prime of her life who had to realign her life’s purposes with the direction in which she seemed to be headed.

While the excitement grows for the Emmy nods to come to fruition, the wheels are continuing to turn in the minds of this local cast with the hope that they can continue to share life’s transgressions for Millenials who are facing crossroads in their lives. “#Washed” is highly entertaining and the potential for its growth is amazingly high and a much-needed source of motivation for those who are still trying to figure out their path in life knowing they don’t have to consider themselves washed up while still in their prime.
