Movie Review: Secret Files Targeting Martin Luther King Jr. Are Finally Exposed In “MLK/FBI”

Based on newly declassified files, Sam Pollard’s resonant film explores the US government’s surveillance and harassment of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The government has always kept a close eye on black activist leaders and Martin Luther King Jr. was no exception as J. Edgar Hoover claimed many in the civil rights movements had connections with Communists. Years of King being attacked by the media, blackmailed, and even threats to his life force you to think about what this country was built on and stand for as a place deemed the land of the free.

This documentary uncovers the despicable, unlawful behavior the FBI went through with attempts to destroy one of the most powerful civil rights leaders of our time. With original footage, interviews, and private documents, this film should definitely be on your list of those uncovering lies, deceit, and racism in this country.
