Movie Review: In “The Fog,” Is All That We See Or Seem But A Dream Within A Dream?

An unearthly fog rolls into a small coastal town exactly 100 years after a ship mysteriously sank in its waters.

“The Fog” is an all-time cinematic masterpiece. This ’80s supernatural film is great from start to finish. It stars Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Janet Leigh, and Hal Holbrook. If you want to get into the Halloween spirit year round, I suggest you watch this repeatedly.

I’m sure you are thinking what’s so scary about a fog? Of course, it’s eerie and creepy but this has a much deeper story. This fog brings back ghosts that were killed more than 100 years ago on a ship called the Elizabeth Dane. You would think that these ghosts would kill the people responsible for their death yet they seem out for revenge on anyone.

Naturally, it’s easy to compare this to Carpenter’s successful 1978 film “Halloween.” Both are horrifying in their own ways.

“The Fog,” in a full 4K restoration from Studiocanal, opens October 26th for limited runs at select theaters nationwide
