Author Penny Junor has written an in-depth biography of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. If you happen to be a Royals watcher and enjoy all the ins and outs of Royal Pedigree, or gossip and outright lies, then this is the book for you. Junor is well-known across the pond and is enjoyed and respected by the Royal watchers. Her background into Camilla Parker Bowles’ history is very well researched and presented. It is also long-winded and at times, tedious but I understand that Junor is trying to present Camilla to a public that has its own opinions about the carry on that almost brought the English Monarchy down.
It is incredibly hard to overcome the tragedy that was Diana, the people’s princess, a Greek tragedy that had nothing on the House of Windsor and almost everyone involved took sides and the Queen’s distance from her son and Phillip’s dislike of Charles is well known. Given the facts, as they were presented to the public via the press, it is extraordinary that Camilla comes out of the whole mess as well as she does. I didn’t know much about her a person, a lover, or a wife to Charles but I enjoyed what I discovered. Camilla has survived the public flogging she was subjected to and the ever-present love she has for Charles in this bio.
She has also taken a lot of charities on board and has surprised many with her charm and the lack of ambition where the title of Queen is a matter of debate. The haters are always on hand but the many good things she has achieved is also there, and nobody can take that away from her. She loves Charles and her loyalty is beyond question so here’s the thing, will history judge her on the fact that she was a mistress first, something that will never go away, or will history be fair and look at the overall picture instead? The book, if you’re a lover of all things Royal, will keep you turning the pages and the majority of facts given, we already knew but there is a face that you won’t have known until now, and it is a good presentation.
