Austin, TX – August 4th, 2022 – On Tuesday, August 9th, in celebration of the release of the hotly-anticipated novel ‘Heat 2’ by Michael Mann and novelist Meg Gardiner, Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles will host multiple screenings of the iconic Los Angeles crime saga, “Heat.” Local bookseller Skylight Books will be on-hand with copies of the novel in the specialty bar Video Vortex before and following primetime screenings.
“Heat” is one of the most beloved motion pictures of all time and one of the most influential crime films ever made. “Heat” was also the first time Al Pacino and Robert De Niro appeared on screen together. Their frank conversation over coffee is one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history. “It’s been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of ‘Heat,’” Mann told Deadline Hollywood. “There was always a rich history or back-story about the events in these people’s lives before 1995 in Heat and projection of where their lives would take them after.”
“We’re ecstatic over the opportunity to contribute in a small part to this film’s continuing legacy,” says Alamo Drafthouse programmer Jake Isgar. “What better way than with a screening in downtown Los Angeles?”
The Bloc, the entertainment complex on 7th and Flower that houses the Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles, is less than a half mile away from the bank robbery sequence at 444 Flower Street.
This special screening also celebrates the release on August 9th of the 20th Century Studios film on 4K Ultra HD Disc for the first time. The remastered film includes previously released audio commentary with Director Michael Mann, Q&As, deleted scenes, and more extras.
