Tribeca Film Festival Review: “The Shipment” Is A Great Sci-Fi Experience That Makes You Think About The Future Of Humankind

An ex-slave trader struggles to live a reformed life as a lowly interplanetary cargo hauler. Stranded and broke, he faces his dark past and difficult ethical choices in a desperate attempt to provide a better life for his daughter.

An interplanetary transporter gets an offer he can’t refuse when asked to transport enslaved captives in order to earn enough to repair his ship and take care of his daughter. When his ship falls apart and he can no longer afford to care for himself and his child, he takes the offer of 70,000 to transport abused captives. The client insists that one of their assistants travel with him to ensure everything goes smoothly. When the inspection patrol signals the ship to pull over, the assistant panics and tries to kill the transporter and take over with fear they will find the captives. After a fight to the death, the transporter takes control, pulls over and is detained for having illegal captives on board. The daughter is taken to live in a beautiful place where she will live a better life and her dad is taken away.

I thought this story was beautifully told and was so relatable to everything us humans deal with here on earth, especially deciding against what is moral and what is necessary when we are desperate. I loved the special effects, I thought they were really amazing and it takes you into a futuristic place where even the manner in which they escape from reality is not like your everyday drug.

“The Shipment” recently premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival
