Tribeca Film Festival Review: “LFG” Dares To Answer Why Female Athletes Are Not Earning Enough To Make Ends Meet

It is a no-holds-barred, inside account of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s ongoing fight for equal pay.

I can’t believe in 2021 women are still fighting for equal pay! How many medals do female athletes need to win in order to receive the same pay as males? Apparently not enough because the US Women’s Soccer Team grew tired of being treated like second-class citizens and filed a lawsuit for equal pay and reparations.

Watching this documentary gave me chills, proving we, as a society, have not progressed as much as we think we have. How is it possible that professional female athletes are not earning enough to make ends meet, unable to afford necessities like food and childcare? How can women players who win medals and bring in money not be provided the same pay and amenities as the male players who do not?

The excuses from the federation were ridiculous, ranging from women not being as physically capable as men to perform the same duties to they got the pay they agreed to in the contracts. Refusing to give up and determined to create change for the future, the team continues to fight for equality. This story is such a wake-up call for both men and women that we need to support each other and demand equal rights!

“LFG” recently had its World Premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival
and is now streaming on HBO Max
