Rover Dramawerks Presents “Kong’s Night Out” Sep. 8 – Oct. 1

Rover Dramawerks continues their SWEET 16 Season with the riotous farce, “Kong’s Night Out” by Jack Neary. Performances will be at Rover’s theatre in Plano, located in Ruisseau Village at 221 W. Parker Rd, Suite 580, at the northwest corner of Parker and 75. Performances run September 8 – October 1 on Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00pm and on Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00pm.

“Kong’s Night Out” is the story of what happened in the hotel room next to the hotel room where Fay Wray was whisked out into the Manhattan night by King Kong. There’s always a backstory, and in this case, it’s a door-slamming farce meticulously coordinated with the events depicted in the classic 1933 movie. Three of the film’s characters – Carl Dennam, Ann Farrow, and Jack Driskel (played by John C. Hogwood, Esther Bayazitoglu, and Eddy Herring, respectively) – appear in the play, with Mark Stoddard providing the iconic radio voice of Walter Winchell. Other characters include rival Broadway producer Myron Siegel (Trey Albright), his mother the former stripper (Cindy Kahn), his two-timing wife (Penny Chinn), his star-struck niece (Danielle Shirar), his devoted henchman (Louis Tarmichael), and the Hungarian backer of his show (Kenneth Fulenwider).

Rover’s Executive Artistic Director Carol M. Rice serves as director with Jessica Morris Herrmann as Stage Manager. Set and lighting design is by Maxim Overton. Shanna Gobin is costume and hair/wigs/makeup designer, Jason Rice is sound designer, and Kristin M. Burgess is props designer. Fight choreography is by Joseph Taylor.

Thursday, September 8th is Preview Night, with all seats $10.00 in advance online or “pay-what-you-can” at the door. Following the show on Friday, September 9th, Rover will host their First Friday INSIDERS reception, where patrons can meet the cast, director, and designers. Tickets for this performance are $32.00. All other tickets for Kong’s Night Out are $22.00 Friday and Saturday nights and $16.00 on Thursdays and matinees.
