Open Road Films Acquires “Mother’s Day” For April 29

Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the romantic comedy “Mother’s Day,” to be directed by Garry Marshall and produced by Wayne Rice and Gulfstream Pictures’ Mike Karz. The film will star Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis, with other cast expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The script was written by Anya Kochoff-Romano and Lily Hollander, Matt Walker and Tom Hines. The film will shoot in Atlanta in August.

Open Road Films will release “Mother’s Day” wide on April 29, 2016. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films.

“We jumped at the chance to be a part of this film,” stated Tom Ortenberg. “Audiences everywhere will surely enjoy seeing moms celebrated by this fantastic cast and talented filmmaking team.”

Rice and Karz, who produced “Valentine’s Day” and “New Year’s Eve,” are delighted to be back for another holiday. “We could not be more excited about producing a comedy about Moms directed by Garry Marshall, starring four of the biggest stars on the planet,” said Rice.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Tom Ortenberg, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Elliott Kleinberg, and Executive Vice President of Production and Acquisitions Peter Lawson. Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which packaged the film, represented the domestic distribution rights and brokered the deal on behalf of the producers with executive producer Matthew Hooper of IME Law. Hooper also arranged the financing for the film. Daniel Diamond, who also serves as a producer, is handling international sales through his Diamond Pictures. Jared Underwood and Danny Mandel of Aperture Media Partners are providing the debt financing.
