In a small agricultural town in the Florida Everglades, hopes for the future are concentrated on the youth. Four teens face heartbreak and celebrate in the rituals of an extraordinary senior year.
This film follows four seniors at Pahokee High School in the Florida Everglades as they manage the pressures of moving towards the next chapters in their lives. In a town where the poverty level is said to be almost 38%, many families do not have the finances to help their children advance. Determined to create a better life, these teens juggle everything from prom to sports along with helping their parents earn a living all while hoping to get accepted into college.
These stories are honest and real, revealing harsh truths of everyday struggle pushing through adversity. Witnessing the intimate lives of these young adults is a reminder of how difficult it truly is to believe in yourself despite your hardships. I enjoyed this film, it was transparent and heartfelt and the ending scene at their graduation leaves you with so much hope.
“Pahokee” will premiere on “America Reframed” on the World Channel February 16th
