Movie Review: An Interrupted Robbery Leaves Police Officers Dead And Two Killers On The Loose In “21 Bridges”

An embattled NYPD detective is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy.

When Andre (Chad Boseman), an NYPD detective, arrives on the scene of a murder involving fellow officers, he is assigned a partner named Frankie (Sienna Miller) from Narcotics to assist him with the case. With 300 kilos of cocaine discovered in the basement of a restaurant and bodies spread out on the ground, Andre is sure there are two expert killers on the run. With only hours to catch them before they escape, the government agrees to shut down Manhattan granting law enforcement until 5 am to detain them.

Raymond (Taylor Kitsch) and Michael (Stephan James) show up to the restaurant in an attempt to steal 30 kilos of cocaine. Shocked to see there is 300 instead, they know something is wrong. When officers casually show up tapping on the window, they force the door open after noticing something is off. As they force the door open and open fire, they are met with a round of bullets killing them all. Michael and Raymond grab the 30 kilos and flee, but as the murder becomes national news Michael, who never intended to kill the police officers, becomes desperate to leave before they are caught. With the city shut down, they receive a contact in Chinatown from their dealer who will hold their money and help them with an escape plan. Unfortunately, the police track them down, killing the man who would help, but Michael and Raymond, manage to get away.

As Andre closes in on them, he ultimately shoots Raymond and comes face to face with Michael for an encounter that ends with a shocking twist. This film literally has some of the most exciting chase scenes that I’ve seen in a long time, the action is amazing and they couldn’t have picked a better cast. The ending was a bit predictable as we find out there are traitors on the force, but that element doesn’t take away from the story at all. You’re going to love this movie, it has a strong story and lots of energy. I don’t typically see films more than once but I wouldn’tmind seeing this one again.
