Movie Review: A Rookie Cop Discovers The Ugly Side Of The Law On His First Night In “Crown Vic”

“Crown Vic” follows one memorable night in the life of LAPD officer Ray Mandel while hunting two cop killers on the loose.

This film allows you to experience 24 hours behind the wheel of a seasoned police officer as he shows a rookie cop his textbook knowledge won’t cut it in the streets. Nick Holland (Luke Kleintank) has waited three years to finally feel like a “real” cop, but little does he know his first night with his instructor Ray (Thomas Jane) will lead him to rethink his career in law enforcement. As Nick becomes familiar with the crooked practices of fellow officers, he has to decide to either stay true to his values or learn to adapt. Watching others abuse their power with innocent civilians, Nick tries to keep his cool until he is tested one night and is forced to pull a gun on an unruly cop named Jack (Josh Hopkins) who takes joy in almost beating a drug addict to death.

As the story unfolds, we find out that Ray’s old partner was killed on the job because of him and leaves behind a wife named Tracy (Bridget Moynahan) and a daughter. Feeling guilty, Ray tries to protect Tracy who doesn’t even know where her own daughter is. Ray pulls favors to finally discover that the little girl is in a drug house that forces children to sell drugs. As he races to rescue the little girl, he goes against all rules of being an officer and Nick can only sit back and be a witness. As the night progresses, Nick encounters a situation that will shock you and by the end of the movie you are glad you are not a police officer but you sure don’t feel sorry for them either.

This film started off slow and the storyline got a bit off track, but once it made its way back, it was actually entertaining. It definitely has great action but it could have been much stronger.
