IndieFlix Securing More Worldwide Rights To Indies & Documentaries

Independent movie hub ‘IndieFlix’ is ramping up its mission to acquire global rights to documentaries and independent films. The company, called the “Netflix of independent film’ by Variety, has been securing global rights for over a decade as a part of its unique international business model.

IndieFlix is available across Asia and in 85 countries around the world (including Cuba). The company works with local filmmakers in the majority of those countries, and plans to expand its reach in both rights and acquisitions. IndieFlix co-founder and CEO Scilla Andreen says, “IndieFlix has delivered globally ever since our inception, so it just made sense to secure worldwide rights. We currently have worldwide rights to over 80% of our library of 8000 titles.”

Because IndieFlix offers so many diverse films from so many countries, viewers get an experience they can’t get anywhere else. “IndieFlix engages audiences in conversation in a way that movies rarely do alone.” says Tom Skerritt, an award-winning actor who has appeared in over 40 films including “Top Gun” and “A River Runs Through It.”

To attract the best global filmmakers, Indieflix pioneered a unique artist payment model called the RPM (Royalty Pool Minutes). The RPM model creates a true partnership with filmmakers: 30% of gross revenues are shared with filmmakers. “We pay filmmakers for every minute their film is watched. As IndieFlix grows, filmmakers earn more. It’s a win-win that is better for the filmmaker than the traditional industry upfront flat fee model.” says Andreen.

Netflix recently announced it will be acquiring worldwide rights to content in order to fight piracy. IndieFlix is proud to have been a pioneer in that space. ‘Scilla recognized early on that the market for independent film would be global and she built the business model on that belief,’ says IndieFlix COO Lisa Spencer.
