IndieFlix Launches New QuickPick Technology & New Platform

IndieFlix CEO and Co-Founder Scilla Andreen gave a keynote address today at the FICG Guadalajara International Film Festival, putting a stake in the ground to become more global and to create equality in the film industry.

Andreen chose to announce the new platform during FICG to show IndieFlix’s commitment to the international film community, particularly in Latin America. With the Academy Award for Best Director going two years in a row to a Mexican Director, it’s clear that some of the greatest minds and talents in the film industry are coming from Latin America and Latinos in the United States. IndieFlix is committed to acquiring some of the best content from the region and to partner with festivals around Latin America.

The recent Economist article on the U.S. film industry and race highlighted that Hispanic actors are most systematically underrepresented, with only 3% of Oscar nominations since 2000 (and they make up 16% of the U.S. population). IndieFlix sees their commitment to Latin America and Hispanic-Americans as fulfilling their mission to deliver high quality, engaging movies while leading positive industry change.

During the keynote address in Guadalajara, Andreen announced the launch of the new IndieFlix user experience that’s wrapped around QuickPick, their new proprietary discovery tool. Now you can easily find what to watch based on your mood on the new IndieFlix site.

Another key point Andreen emphasized about the site is the access to data for the individual content providers. The new platform provides filmmakers with 24/7 access to a dashboard to see how many minutes have been watched of their film, where their audience is located and what device they’re watching on.

“Data is so important,” Andreen said. “We can’t run our companies without it. How can we possibly expect filmmakers to make great movies if they don’t know who or where their audience is?”

Andreen and her team have grown IndieFlix into one of the most meaningful global online streaming platforms in the world, giving film lovers access to over 9000 high-quality shorts, features, documentaries and web-series from 85 countries, 2500 film festivals and the top film schools in the world. They pay filmmakers for every minute watched through their groundbreaking, unique royalty payment system called RPM (Revenue Per Minute). And now they share data with the filmmakers as well.

“We innovate on a daily basis,” said Andreen during the address. “I’m on a mission to help content creators make meaningful revenue and to help the audience easily find what to watch. Transparency is key.”

Indieflix’s new platform is now live on their website. “We’re going to grow this together,” says Andreen. “Indieflix is not just a catalog of films online, it’s a movement!”
