Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump leads an investigation into the 1996 murder of influential rap artist Tupac Shakur.

A&E’s six-part series surrounding the life and death of Tupac Shakur is a collection of interviews conducted by famed Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump. Crump felt compelled to conduct his own investigation twenty years after Tupac’s death in order to try to bring a much-needed sense of closure to Tupac’s family, friends and fans. His involvement is personal and political as his mother and Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, went to school together and he feels the need to respect her legacy as well as do his part to uncover answers to the many questions that remain unresolved twenty years later.

The interviewees include Tupac’s brother Mopreme Shakur, his childhood friend E.D.I. Mean, executives at Death Row Records, members of his group, Outlawz, Al Sharpton, Michael Eric Dyson and a host of others who provide insight and wide-ranging perspective into the essence of who Tupac was as a human being, social icon, soldier, prophet, and musician. It is also collectively believed that his bloodline which included his father being a well-known revolutionary and his mother a high-ranking member of the Black Panthers, played a role in his being targeted by various groups who did not approve of Tupac’s life exemplifying what was viewed as a precautionary tale for black people.

Crump’s detailed questioning during the interviews and explicit desire to get the untold story, appear to be a great undertaking that results in a remarkable reenactment of Tupac’s life and death, beginning with his childhood influences and extending throughout his socialist roles, career as a Rapper, the chilling details from witnesses who were with him the night he was shot to death in Vegas and the far-reaching legacy he has left behind.
