DVD Review: “Puppy Dog Pals” Going On A Mission Is Playful And Adorable

While their owner Bob is away, adorable puppy brothers Bingo and Rolly embark on exciting missions stretching from their own backyard to amazing locations all around the world. With support from their “big sister” Hissy, a neighborhood full of animal friends and Bob’s high-tech inventions, these hilarious heroes are always ready to unleash totally paw-some fun.

I admit, I was not excited to watch a cartoon meant for toddlers but was surprised to find this particular breed of toddler toons to be both adorable and imaginative. The pups resembled stuffed animals with overly large eyes and tiny peg legs. Who wouldn’t want to cuddle one of these sweet little guys? Hissy the cat is not quite as cute or cuddly but adds an authoritative air to the fifteen-minute installments. Moms will willingly sit through the mini-sodes along with their kiddos because of inventor Bob and his imaginative inventions meant to please his pups.

Puppy Pals Rolly and Bingo kept their days quite busy when Bob left for the day to create wacky creations. Every day these precocious pups caused some sort of trouble to find their way out of their owners expected bad graces. Of course, their fix ended up causing more problems, otherwise, the show would not be worth watching. Hissy, AKA her royal majesty, is basically a cat version of Hermione from Harry Potter. She tells the boys what they have done wrong and to go fix it. Just like Harry and Ron, the boys set off on an adventure.

My favorite episode was when the pups set off to find the missing pyramids in Egypt. Let’s start with the obvious: how did the dogs get from America to the Giza? Has inventor Bob created a space rocket not shown? Also, how does someone steal the pyramids? Moving on. Bob also invented every mom’s dream, a cleaning robot. This particular robot, named ARF, not only entertained the puppies but clean up after every mess they made. The pups definitely gave the robotic pooch a run for his money. Seriously though, where can I get one?

Is it sad that I’m a little envious of tiny cartoon puppies? They have the best life filled with adventure. All in one hundred and forty minute DVD they managed a trip to Hawaii, visited a baby penguin, make a bunch of friends, and were given a robot to serve their every need. I might have enjoyed this cartoon more than my seven-year-old. I need to find Bob. His talent could be better utilized around my house than making dog toys. Definitely, buy this cartoon for your toddlers. You can get a little housework in while they watch the most adorable animated pups I have ever seen. Bonus: not a single voice in this film annoyed me so much I wanted to throw a shoe through the TV.

Available on Disney DVD April 10th
