Dallas: AURORA Wants Your Photos For Their “Memory Lane” Exhibit

The founders of Aurora, along with the nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center, today called for North Texans to submit and share their images of daily life in the 20th Century as part of the “Memory Lane” public art project. “Memory Lane” is one of many exhibits featured in Aurora – Powered by Reliant – a major immersive light, sound and performance event taking place the night of Friday, October 16th across the Dallas Arts District.

“Memory Lane” is a multimedia exhibit specially created for (and about) the Dallas community. It’s a collaborative project by artists Veronika Georgieva and Stephen Shanabrook, curated by Tim Goossens.

The multiscreen installation will be located on North Harwood Street between Klyde Warren Park and Flora Street. The exhibit will allow the community to see what life looked like in our region and the diverse and growing array of citizens who have helped shape it.

Citizens in North Texas are asked to provide photos taken from 1901 through 2000, until September 23rd, of the following types of experiences:

  • Births
  • Weddings
  • Religious or cultural milestones including baptisms, bar mitzvah, quinceañeras, communions, etc.
  • Workplace
  • Block parties and neighborhood gatherings
  • Vacations and trips
  • Processions and religious happenings
  • Secular parties (such as barbeques or evenings with friends)
  • Daily life in hospitals, army bases, prisons, orphan homes, or health facilities

When people submit to the “Memory Lane” project, they will be entered to win a pair of Aurora VIP Experience tickets, which includes two complimentary adult beverages, access to VIP lounges and tickets to the afterparty in Strauss Square. One Artist’s Choice will be awarded by the Aurora Memory Lane artists. One People’s Choice will be awarded by public vote. Winners will be chosen once the contest ends, after September 23rd and will be notified via e-mail.

To submit photos, please go to http://www.capturedallas.com/challenges/open-call-for-memory-lane-aurora-2015 where you can also find the complete image specification requirements and the rules and regulations of this project.

Note: When you submit photos (“the Materials”) to Memory Lane Aurora 2015, you grant Aurora and artist Veronika Georgieva a limited, royalty-free, nonexclusive, nonrevocable, worldwide right to copy, edit, adapt, distribute, perform, display, and/or use the Materials, including any derivative works or translations created from the Materials, in whole or in part, as we, in our sole discretion, deem appropriate, for the specific use of a public work of art for Memory Lane during Aurora 2015 (October 16th, 2015). This includes potential use on Aurora, AT&T Performing Arts Center and The Dallas Morning News controlled websites, social media pages, marketing and public relations materials.
