In “Marshals,” Kayce Dutton trades ranch life for a badge, joining an elite US Marshals unit in Montana. Armed with his cowboy grit and Navy SEAL training, Kayce faces cartels, gangs, and violent extremists while balancing family and duty.
Reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, Luke Grimes stars in “Marshals,” the fourth series in the YELLOWSTONE franchise, which serves as both spin-off and a sequel to the original series. A former Navy SEAL and recent widower, Dutton struggles to raise his son alone after putting the Yellowstone Ranch behind them. Logan Marshall-Green returns as Cal, Kayce’s friend and former team leader, who offers him the position as Special Deputy in the US Marshals. Both men have demons to conquer, and Cal wants to make sure Kayce isn’t struggling alone.
If you were a fan of “Justified,” this show is for you. Dutton chasing down criminals donned in his rancher hat makes this feel like a spin-off of that show instead of “Yellowstone.” Both shows have no shortage of backwoods action, drama, conspiracy, and banter between the marshals. “Marshals” ditches the soapy drama elements of its predecessor for a police procedural format.
The 1080p resolution looks outstanding, bringing the dense forests and mountain ranges of Montana to life. It also sounds great, in English and French 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. The set features all 13 episodes of Season One on three discs.
Strangely, the 3-disc set lacks any special features: no behind-the-scenes featurette, no deleted scenes, not even any cast and crew commentary. It just has the episodes in high resolution, and that’s it.
Regardless, “Marshals: Season One” is a must-have for fans of the franchise.
