Blu-ray Review: Fans Of “Supergirl” With Thoroughly Enjoy Its Fifth Season

The adventures of Superman’s cousin in her own superhero career. Years ago, Krypton was about to explode and Kal-El was sent to Earth to escape that fate. However, his older cousin, Kara, was also intended to accompany the infant as his protector.

At the end of season four, we are led to believe that none other than Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) himself has been killed but would the producers really kill off Superman and Supergirl’s most notorious nemesis? At the end of season four, Lena shoots Lex dead but in the closing moments of the episode, the Monitor materializes and appears to revive him, so what’s the deal? Is Lex really dead? In short, no, he has been resurrected and is being prepared for the looming crisis.

Lena (Katie McGrath) sells CatCo Worldwide Media to her old friend, Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo) for $1.3 billion and the first thing she does is replace James Olson (Mehcad Brooks) as editor-in-chief but he quits his position as he wants nothing to do with Andrea’s plans to incorporate sensationalist journalism. This further drives a wedge between Lena and James. Lena finally confronts Kara (Melissa Benoist) about her concealing her identity as Supergirl, stating that she is not a villain and shouldn’t have been treated as one. Throughout this season, the two friends (or is it foes?) continue to fight each other, then make up, and then fight some more.

One of the new villains this season is Leviathan, an alien species who says their ship crashed into earth millions of years ago and it was that collision that was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs. Since then, they have watched over earth and its inhabitants, making sure they didn’t destroy themselves but when they discover that Lena now holds the medallion of Acrata, an ancient Mayan artifact that permits teleportation, they will stop at nothing to get it.

This season is filled with conflict between enemies, and some between friends, but little do they know a new villain, Anti-Monitor, and the shadow demons, are fast approaching in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” so they must put aside their differences if they are to save the earths, and each other. Season Five is immensely enjoyable and I look forward to season six with anticipation.
