Filled with never-before-seen archival footage, “EPiC” explodes onto the screen in Blu-ray™ and 4K Ultra HD™ formats with seemingly boundless energy. It’s a fascinating glimpse of Elvis during several high points of his phenomenal career.
The film looks at concert appearances over the years, peppered with his personal commentary during interviews about topics such as family and the dichotomy between his public image and private life. It all sweeps by much too quickly, touching on the early days in front of audiences filmed in black-and-white, two years in the military, financially successful but (according to Elvis) unsatisfying appearances in thirty-one movies across the 1950s and 60s, and concluding with hundreds of live performances in Las Vegas, which he claimed to enjoy the most as an entertainer.
So much could be written or said about Elvis that any one movie-length documentary could hardly do justice to the story. “EPiC” astutely focuses on well-chosen portions from live shows which confidently demonstrate the crowd-pleasing prowess of the King of Rock and Roll, along with insightful behind-the-scenes personal commentary from Elvis. Although reputed to have a violent temper, the documentary portrays Elvis as a really nice guy, particularly when working and rehearsing with supporting band members. Given the amount of stress he had to endure on so many levels, it’s perhaps not surprising that he was compelled to vent at times – but according to ex-wife Priscilla Presley, pretty much at inanimate objects, not people.
Incredibly, Elvis never performed outside of North America, though he had the opportunity to tour virtually anywhere. In “EPiC,” Elvis indicated that he would like to have traveled more but, except for his stint in the Army, he never went abroad.
Written and directed by Baz Luhrmann – who also co-wrote and directed “Moulin Rouge” and “The Great Gatsby” – “EPiC” represents a fine contribution to the biopic concert experience genre. The film revels in the rare talent and raw charisma of Elvis Presley, unquestionably on a short list of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century. Presley died in 1977 at just 42 years of age, far too soon and far too young. His magnificent legacy, however, lives on and on.

I wish that all Elvis Presley Movies and Concerts that they could make them in 4K, 8k HD and Blu-ray
That is really great that it will be in HD Blue ray ETC. But what about some like me who doesn’t have those devices…HOW can we watch it ..I am a very very long time admirer of Elvis since I was 12 or 13 yrs old. I had a huge crush on him and to this day I still do…….love him so much . MY KING OF ROCK N’ ROLL. FOREVER AN ADMIRER.
