4K Ultra HD Review: “Aladdin” Is Still One Of The Best All-Time Animated Movies Ever

A kindhearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.

Mr. Aladdin Sir, your movie filled a wish or two for me. Yes, I have no problem whatsoever admitting that even as an adult, “Aladdin” is one of my favorite movies. Think about it, the movie offers suspense, action, drama, romance, humor, animals, and a Genie. Not just any Genie but Robin Williams at his finest. Yes, the new “Aladdin” made a beautiful movie, but it can never replace the original.

Way back in 1992, “Aladdin” came to the big screen for the first time to change the animated movie industry forever. It set a very high bar for all other movies to live up to; it was that important. Not only was it a Disney princess movie but with a strong princess not ready to give in to the traditional ways of men and she had a pet tiger to boot! If you haven’t seen the movie, I will give you a quick synopsis, but you have failed at life if you have not seen this iconic movie.

Aladdin (Scott Weinger) is a street rat stealing food so he and his monkey Abu can survive. Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) escapes the trials of royal life to explore her city and runs into our boy Aladdin. Her father’s evil assistant Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) wants to find Aladdin to find a magical lamp to make Jafar the most powerful man in the world. He tells the princess her beloved stranger was already sentenced and dead. Instead, Aladdin gets the lamp and three wishes. His first wish is to be a prince to win the hand of the lovely princess.

Genie, a magic carpet, and monkey Abu help Aladdin with his new fortune convincing him to tell Jasmine the truth of his identity. The requests fell on deaf ears as Al did everything he could to impress the princess and her father the King. Al promised his new best friend Genie he would give his last wish to free his big blue friend from the cuffs chaining him to the magical lamp. Trouble abounds when Jafar decides he wants to marry Jasmine who previously refused to pick a husband. He steals the lamp and gets his wish fulfilled to rule the world. Aladdin must work to save his princess and stop the evil tyrant.

Go into almost any girls’ room across the globe and you can probably find some form of Jasmine paraphernalia glowing in regal beauty. Why? Because Disney hit a home run with this movie. Like “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin” was a massive success. Princess movies win because it’s royalty with sass and humor. Women breaking the rules and standing up for their rights all with a little magic and a lot of humor.

Buy “Aladdin” now and carry on the Disney legacy to the next generation. You need to know the movie verbatim before you can put the remote down. What is life without singing the incredible song “A Whole New World” at the top of your lungs? Or quoting “Kiss the monkey, ah! Hairball” while kissing your kids on the forehead? “Aladdin” brings imagination to life as you dream of wearing the midriff-baring royal suit and owning a pet tiger to stand guard. I’m off to re-watch both versions now.
