Blu-ray Review: Step Inside “Gabby’s Dollhouse” Where Friends, Family, And A Dash Of Imagination Turn Every Moment Into An Adventure

Gabby and Grandma Gigi’s road trip takes an unexpected turn when Gabby’s prized dollhouse ends up with eccentric cat lady Vera. Gabby embarks on an adventure to reunite the Gabby Cats and retrieve her beloved dollhouse before it’s too late.

From the very first sparkle of “Gabby’s Dollhouse The Movie,” it’s clear this is a world built for dreamers. The animation bursts off the screen—walls are awash in bubblegum pinks, every room is crammed with clever, whimsical flourishes, and there’s a playful energy that makes each scene feel like an invitation to jump in and play alongside Gabby and her friends.

Laila Lockhart Kraner once again shines as Gabby, her warmth and enthusiasm making every pint-sized problem feel like an adventure worth joining. Surrounded by a vibrant cast (with Gloria Estefan delivering absolute delight as Kitty Fairy and Kristen Wiig unleashing comedic mayhem as the quirky, if occasionally frightening, antagonistic Cat-astrophe), the movie doubles down on what makes the series so beloved: teamwork, friendship, and a never-ending belief in creativity. These themes run through every musical moment and wacky misadventure, singing the praises of families (in all their shapes and sizes) and the kind of supportive friendships that feel like home.

Much like the show, the movie practically begs for audience participation—and younger viewers will likely oblige, chattering along with Gabby’s questions, dancing to Cakey’s sugary songs, and trying their own hands at the movie’s fun, craft-inspired ideas. It’s rare to see a film weave interactivity into its story without feeling forced, and here that connection feels natural and genuine.

Visually, it’s a feast: every yarn ball, sprinkle, and glittery cupcake is rendered with so much detail and color, you half expect your television to start smelling like cookies. The production team clearly had fun letting their imaginations run wild, and it pays off in sheer, magnetic charm.

Does the story break new ground? Not really. If you’re coming for a plot twist or a meaty narrative arc, you might be a tad underwhelmed—the story sticks to familiar beats, and wraps up just about the way you’d expect. Kristen Wiig’s Cat-astrophe, while hilarious for most, might give particularly sensitive kids a bit of a scare (though nothing a quick cuddle can’t fix).

Still, it’s hard to hold a grudge when the message is this pure. “Gabby’s Dollhouse The Movie” isn’t about reinventing the wheel—it’s about showing kids that the best adventures happen when you work together, support your friends, and let your creativity lead the way. Most grownups will walk away smiling, and kids? They’ll be begging for just one more visit inside the dollhouse.
