Movie Review: “Wojnarowicz: F*ck You F*ggot F**ker” Is Explicit, Powerful, And exciting

A controversial artist blazes a trail for other gay image-makers in New York’s 1980s scene, only to perish at the end of the decade from the AIDS virus.

During the 1980s, David Wojnarowicz became one of the most prominent voices in the art scene for social and political issues surrounding LGBTQ rights and AIDS. As Soho became New York City’s art Mecca, David’s work began gaining attention as he shocked with sexually explicit photographs of homosexuals and references to religious figures.

Although he received an enormous amount of backlash and ridicule, his diagnosis with AIDS inspired him to continue to channel his pain into his art, provoking controversy that would draw attention to social change.

Through journals, tapes, and interviews with those close to him, this beautiful documentary tells a story of an incredibly talented man with great passion to tell his story and refused to be silenced.

Opens nationwide through Kino Marquee virtual cinemas on Friday, March 19th
