Will “Mayans MC” Repeat Success Of “Sons Of Anarchy?”

“Mayans MC” is an American drama series which began on the 4th of September. Created by Kurt Sutter, the man behind the hit show “Sons of Anarchy,” the show is set in the same world as “SOA,” but two and a half years later. The story centers on the Mayans Motorcycle Club, the former enemies of the Reapers, with particular attention paid to a character known as Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes.

EZ, in many ways, is a gifted child, he has the world at his feet as he looks to head off to college and his family couldn’t be prouder of him. However, due to cartels and the violence that comes with them, he sees his dreams shattered and this leaves him hell-bent on getting revenge. This sees EZ head down a path he thought he would never take, as he becomes a prospective member of the Mayans Motorcycle Club. This biker club has a love for Harley-Davidsons, an iconic bike which represents the heart and soul of America and has even been used as a theme for casino games like the Harley Davidson Online Slot.

“Sons” fans will be eagerly anticipating the release of “Mayans MC,” and while it is being labeled a spin-off to the brilliant “SOA,” the show does move in a completely different direction. EZ isn’t like the streetwise Jax of “Sons of Anarchy,” in many ways he’s not supposed to be even living this kind of life and that’s what makes the story even more gripping and immersive.

Creator Kurt Sutter has recognized that parallels will be drawn between “Sons of Anarchy” and “Mayans MC,” but he does hope that the spin-off will be recognized as a standalone piece of work in time. Sutter also recognized that he wanted the show to be as authentic as possible, especially when it came to representing Latino culture. With “Sons of Anarchy” telling the story of the working-class white guys, Sutter was comfortable in the writing room, but this time he knew he shouldn’t be the sole or main voice, hence Elgin James’ and Noberto Barba’s inclusion.

It’s the authenticity which can make “Mayans MC” a huge hit with viewers, and it could even be on the same sort of level as “Sons of Anarchy” too. Elgin James, the show’s co-creator and the man tasked with delivering the authentic Latino take on proceedings said, “I grew up in a world of gangs and violence. A lot of people in ‘Mayans’ grew up in a cycle of poverty, violence, and incarceration and this is the first time we get to tell our stories from the inside out.”

If they have managed to get the Latino culture across as well as expected, alongside the usual mix of motorbikes, violence and the drug trade, “Mayans MC” will be a huge success when it airs on FX this month. There are 10 episodes in the first season and we fully expect viewers to be hooked and wanting more when it draws to a close.
