Digital entertainment curator FilmBuff announced today that it has licensed the rights to distribute “Welcome to Happiness,” a unique comedy/drama/fantasy with a talented ensemble cast featuring Kyle Gallner (“Veronica Mars,” “American Sniper”), Nick Offerman (NBC’s “Parks and Recreation”), Keegan-Michael Key (Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele”), Molly C. Quinn (ABC’s “Castle”), Olivia Thirlby (“Juno”), Josh Brener (“Silicon Valley”) Brendan Sexton III (AMC’s “The Killing”), Paget Brewster (CBS’s “Criminal Minds”) and Frances Conroy (FX’s “American Horror Story”). The film will be released in select theaters and On Demand platforms on Friday, May 20th.
In “Welcome to Happiness,” Woody (Gallner), a children’s author, rents a strange apartment from his landlord, Moses (Offerman). There’s a magical door in Woody’s closet that allows those who go through it to erase mistakes from their past. While he was once happy to facilitate the passage of the random strangers summoned to his apartment, Woody soon begins to question why he himself is not allowed to go through.
“Making ‘Welcome to Happiness’ was an amazing journey, and we’re thrilled to be entering the next chapter with FilmBuff,” says writer and director Oliver Thompson. “We tried to make a movie that would resonate with people all over the world, and through this partnership we can’t wait to bring them our story.”
The film was an official selection at the 2015 Newport Beach Film Festival, 2015 Napa Valley Film Festival, 2015 Cucalorus Film Festival, 2015 La Costa Film Festival, 2015 Dances with Films Festival, 2015 deadCENTER Film Festival, 2016 Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema, and the 2016 Phoenix Film Festival. “Welcome to Happiness has been awarded ‘Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking’ at the Newport Beach Film Festival, ‘Excellence in Producing’ and ‘Producers Choice’ at the International Festival of Cinema, ‘Best Narrative Feature’ at the deadCENTER Film Festival, as well as ‘Best Ensemble Cast’ at the Phoenix Film Festival.

The film is written and directed by Oliver Thompson and produced by Thompson, Bay Dariz, Kyle Gallner and Molly C. Quinn. Sam Scupp negotiated the deal on behalf of FilmBuff. It will be available on all major On Demand platforms including Amazon Instant Video, Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Google Play, iTunes, Sony PlayStation Store, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS, Vudu and Xbox Video on May 20th.
