“To Kid Or Not To Kid” To Have World Premiere At DOC NYC

It comes as quite a surprise that in the 21st century we still live in a world where you’re criticized for speaking openly about living childfree. “To Kid or Not To Kid” goes deep into the lives of two women as they search for ways to support each other in living without having children.

Maxine, 42, surrounded by friends who have made the decision to have children, finally faces up to her the fact she never made kids a priority, it was hard for her physically to have children and work came first. She anxiously awaits the backlash when she “comes out” as never having tried to have them. Megan, younger and bolder at 25, battles stubborn local doctors and harsh stigma to undergo elective sterilization. Hormonal birth control gives her serious side effects and she’s desperate to not get accidentally pregnant.

The film follows Megan for three years as she goes from one doctor to the next on her desperate search to be sterilized. After experiencing a huge loss in her personal life, Maxine comes out to those closest to her for the very first time. Will she be made to feel better for it, or will her husband leave her, will her family understand, or will her community make her feel more ostracized than ever before?

“To Kid or Not To Kid” will have its World Premiere at DOC NYC on Sunday, November 11th at 2:15 pm at the IFC Center on 323 6th Avenue, New York, NY. 10014.

After being interviewed as a childfree by choice woman on, “60 Minutes”, in 1974, I lost my job as a teacher and faced death threats! When I spoke,I had to be escorted across angry picketing lines. Signs read: “Godless Bitch”. For the first of many times I faced the wrath of pronatalism. I’m proud to say I’m in this film and… Read more »
