Set in Queens on the famous day Pope Paul visits New York City, we are introduced to a zookeeper who dreams of writing ditties in Hollywood, his schizoid, shut-in wife (aptly named Bananas), and his quietly explosive son, a GI headed straight for Vietnam. Oh, and there are some crazy nuns and a silent movie star. While you’re laughing your head off you might suddenly realize that what you’re finding so funny at once really isn’t funny at all.
