The Texas Theatre and the USA Film Festival in Dallas will honor writer and director Whit Stillman in conjunction with a special 25th anniversary screening of his contemporary classic “Metropolitan” on Wednesday, November 4th at 7:30pm, at the Texas Theatre, 231 W. Jefferson Boulevard, Dallas, Texas. The one-night-only event will include a screening of the film followed by an on-stage Q&A session with Whit Stillman.
“We are so honored to team up with the Texas Theatre to host Whit Stillman and revisit ‘Metropolitan,’” said the Festival’s Managing Director, Ann Alexander. “The film’s doomed, nostalgic flavor made it an indie favorite 25 years ago, and made Stillman one of contemporary film’s most clever provocateurs.”
ABOUT THE FILM — Rialto Pictures has re-released the film in honor of its 25th anniversary. Originally released in 1990, the film casts a gimlet-eyed look at young, Park Avenue socialites on winter break from college during debutante ball season. Stillman’s gently ironic and comic screenplay earned an Academy Award nomination.
WHIT STILLMAN — Whit Stillman grew up in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, Manhattan and Washington, D.C. He attended Harvard where he was an editor of the Harvard Crimson before working in book and magazine publishing. He has written and directed five films, including “Barcelona,” “The Last Days of Disco,” “Damsels in Distress,” and the forthcoming “Love & Friendship,” as well as the pilot for a series, “The Cosmopolitans.” His novel, ‘The Last Days of Disco with Cocktails at Petrossian Afterwards’ won the 2014 Prix Fitzgerald in France. He has written for the Voice, Wall Street Journal, Harper’s, The Guardian, El Pais and other publications.
