Synapse Films Releases “Creature From Black Lake” On Blu-ray December 13

The legend of Bigfoot, or Bigfoot-like creatures, dates back nearly a thousand years. In the 1970s, the big guy’s popularity soared, and he became the subject of countless films. Director Joy N. Houck Jr. took a stab at bringing the Bigfoot mythos to the big screen in 1976 with “Creature from Black Lake.” In the nearly fifty years since its release, “Creature from Black Lake” has been a popular title amongst bootleggers, with poor-quality home video releases popping up on the market every few years. On December 13th, you can kick those shoddy DVDs to the curb as Synapse Films gives “Creature from Black Lake” a proper release for the first time on Blu-ray™ and DVD, remastered from the original film materials.

Two college students attend a lecture on humanoid creatures and learn about the Fouke Monster. Fascinated by what they learn, the pair head to the Louisiana-Arkansas border to do further research on the creature. After they begin interviewing witnesses, they soon realize the creature has an eye on them, leading to a showdown in the swamp.

This fictional tale inspired by real reports has been a long-time favorite for late-night TV viewers and is notable for featuring the camera work of Oscar nominee Dean Cundey. The new Synapse release marks the film’s Blu-ray™ debut and features a brand-new 4K restoration.

Special features include audio commentary with author/filmmaker Michael Gingold and film historian Chris Poggiali and Swamp Stories, a new featurette with Cundey.

Available on Blu-ray™ and DVD December 13th
