Rover Dramawerks Announces Auditions For 365 Women A Year Festival

Auditions: Saturday, March 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. & Sunday, March 20th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Auditions will be at Rover Dramawerks, 221 W. Parker Road, Suite 580 in Plano, at the northwest corner of 75 and Parker Rd. in the Ruisseau Village Shopping Center.

Brief Synopses:

Rover is pleased to present 15 short plays by playwrights all over the United States for our second annual 365 Women a Year Festival. Directors are looking for an ensemble of ethnically diverse actors to fill various roles.

Roles:

  • Ruth Handler, 62 – Barbie developer & founder of Mattel Toys
  • Future Girl,” 17 year old female from the future
  • Agnes deMille, 20s/30s – choreographer/dancer
  • Stella, 20s/30s – secretary to Cecil B. de Mille
  • Tina, 40s – white female comedienne
  • Carla, 40s – black female comedienne
  • Moms Mabley, 60s-80s – black female comedienne
  • Amelia Melcher, 13 year old female
  • Madeline, mid-50s woman going through a divorce
  • Louise Bourgeois, 20s-40s – artist (must be able to do a passable French accent)
  • Jane Foster, 20s female – a spy
  • Betty MacDonald, 20s female – a spy
  • Alice Liddell, 16-early 20s female – the “real” Alice in Wonderland
  • Elizabeth Philpot, 40 female – amateur fossil collector; impoverished noblewoman
  • Abigail May “Abba” Alcott, 40s female – loving mother of four daughters, unhappily married but duty-bound to support her husband
  • Annie Alcott, early teens female – Louisa’s older, goody-goody sister, blonde
  • Soraya Mire, any age female – Somalian filmmaker and female genital mutilation/human rights activist
  • Mother/Sahir/Protester, any age female
  • Doctor/Therapist/Protester, any age, gender flexible
  • Cecil B. deMille, 40+ male, a flamboyant Hollywood producer
  • Johan Peters, 50s male businessman (may speak with a Bavarian accent)
  • William Donovan, 40s male – head of the OSS in World War II
  • Paul Child, early 40s male – a spy and future husband of Julia Childs
  • James Brady, 30s male – amateur fossil collector; from a somewhat genteel class but not a nobleman.
  • Bronson Alcott, 40s male – lofty, abstract, and desperately impractical
  • Brother Charles Lane, 50s male – dour, rigid, and repressed British scholar; believes anything that brings happiness is evil
  • Brother Eli, 30s male – believes nudity brings purity and cursing elevates the spirit

Other roles may also be available. Actors will be considered for multiple shows and roles.

365 Women a Year Festival will run May 5-14 on Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Rover Dramawerks, 221 W. Parker Rd., Suite 580, Plano 75023.
