Movie Review: “The Sons Of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness” Shows How Secret Details Of The Most Infamous Serial Murders In US History Got Ignored

The Son of Sam case grew into a lifelong obsession for journalist Maury Terry, who became convinced that the murders were linked to a satanic cult.

During the summer of 1976, a string of murders began taking place right here in New York City, and fear spread like fire as soon as the media got their hands on the story. Dubbed as the .44 caliber killer due to the weapon used, a twenty-four-year-old man named David Berkowitz was finally arrested and pleaded guilty to six of the shootings calling himself the Son of Sam. Journalist Maury Terry became obsessed with the story dedicating over a decade to unraveling the hidden truth behind these murders.

This series opens the door to a secret satanic cult linking many other killings, including those involving Jack the Ripper and Charles Manson. Terry exposes information that had been ignored by the press and finally gets his chance to confront David face to face in hopes to prove he was right all along.

What I found particularly fascinating about this series is not only how well the murder case was presented but a man’s journey to bring awareness to a cult that may explain the root of many serial killings. Watching this series definitely makes you wonder why so many unsolved mysteries are still unsolved.

“The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness” will release globally on Netflix Wednesday, May 5th
