Movie Review: “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy” Has A Great Story, Cast And The Most Incredible Fight Scenes

While keeping a low profile after his defeat from Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi gets into trouble after getting in a fight with a powerful foreigner.

Cheung Tin-chi (Jin Zhang), a retired martial arts master decides to live the simple life until he runs into trouble forcing him to fight again. Tso Sai Kit (Kevin Chen) is involved in an illegal business with his sister Tso Ngan Kwan (Michelle Yeoh) when he decides to leave and start his own drug dealing operation. The story takes off when Cheung Tin-chi saves a woman named Nana (Chrissie Chau) who is attacked for not paying Tso, who is selling her drugs. She calls her friend Julia (played by Liu Yan) to bail her out but when Julia arrives and is short on cash, the two women fight against Tso and his crew to save their lives. Cheung Tin-chi witnesses the altercation and intervenes to rescue the women.

After being detained, everyone is eventually released however, Tso now takes revenge against Cheung Tin-chi first by trying to burn his house down with him in it. With nothing left and nowhere to go, Julia offers him a place to stay in her home plus a job with her brother Fu (Xing Yu) at his bar until he gets back on his feet. Trouble seems begins to follow Cheung Tin-chi now that Tso begins dealing drugs in the bar district and now he has to try and stop him with the help of his own sister Tso Ngan Kwan who has already ordered him to stop making trouble.

This film is exciting, funny and has some of the most incredible fight sequences. You are going to really love this movie, it is well written, directed and kept its pace throughout. There are some other cool characters that make the story even more exciting but I’m not going to spoil this one for you. All I will say is that even if you are not familiar with the IP Man series like me, this movie is easy to follow along. I was definitely pleasantly surprised and have already been recommending this one to everyone!

In theaters April 12th
