“Lady Macbeth” is a 2016 thriller based on the novel ‘Lady Macbeth’ by Nikolai Leskov. In rural England in the late 1800s, Katherine has been sold into marriage to an uncaring, middle aged man who is under the strict and cruel control of his father. As Katherine is forced to live in a cold and cruel world, she is finally awoken by Sebastian who shows her there is more to life with love. All does not go as planned as obstacles stand in her way of her and Sebastian being together forever.
This move is a thriller from the first moment to the last that will leave you a little terrified for the safety of the rest of the characters. Seeing a young and innocent girl turn into the cruel and calculating woman was intense to its very core.
This movie is fantastic, beautifully shot, and has moments that didn’t rely on heavy dialogue but let the scene speak for itself.
Florence Pugh is a force to be reckoned with, and her subtle nuances were perfect. She is an actress that will go far with her career.
The pace felt a little slow at times, and on occasion, an accent was hard to understand. Overall though, this is a great movie that historical drama lovers will enjoy.
