A man struggling to find purpose in life is enlightened by a drunk ailing widow.
Rodney (Steve Olson) is a man in his thirties that is down on his luck. His girlfriend Tess (Katrina Bowden) has been cheating on him for five of the six months of their relationship and when he finds this out, Rodney hits rock bottom. It is from here that Rodney struggles to find his place or purpose in life.
Rodney decides to drive around, reflecting on his problems when his car breaks down in front of a stranger’s house. With no place to go for the night, he decides to sleep in his car, but before getting some rest, Rodney plugs his phone into an extension cord and “borrows some electricity.” He is awoken the next morning by June (Katherine Cortez), who busts him for stealing her electricity. June is a recent widow and also a drunk. June momentarily considers having Rodney arrested, but reconsiders and puts him to work cleaning up around the house.
What starts out as a short-term stay to pay for the electricity, turns into a much longer then expect stay, surprising both parties. Rodney finds in June a mother-like figure, while June finds a friend.
Fishbowl California is a fun movie that comes in a little over 83 minutes.
