Movie Review: I Continued Looking Under My Bed After Watching “Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman”

A specter roams the highways of a gritty 1970s America, his name is Ted Bundy. Hunting him are intrepid FBI agents Kathleen McChesney and Robert Ressler, organizers of the largest manhunt in history to apprehend America’s most infamous serial killer.

There are so many films about Ted Bundy, you pretty much know what to expect. However, I was hoping this one would at least introduce something unexpected or some unveiled information about Ted the public hadn’t yet heard. I was pleasantly surprised by this story in particular because it gave a multidimensional perspective of all involved in his string of murders.

Ted Bundy was considered an intelligent and charming man, making it easy for him to draw his victims close. What I haven’t seen in previous films that impressed me in this one, was that the viewer gets a full psychological view of how Ted saw himself within his violent acts. You also get to experience the personal emotional ups and downs law enforcement faced as they struggled to track him down. One scene that stood out for me was a very poignant family secret that was revealed so clearly but has always been denied by Ted Bundy in his early interviews.

Writer and Director Daniel Farrands adds the right amount of horror, thrills, and mind games. When the film was over, I still looked under my bed to see if he was there!

Fathom Events will release “Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman” in Select Theaters
Monday, August 16th, while Dark Star Pictures will release it on VOD and DVD September 3rd
