Jonah Hill Talks “War Dogs” – The Absurdly True Story

What do a masseur, weed, and weapons have in common? “War Dogs” is what. During his interview on “LIVE with Kelly” this morning, actor Jonah Hill discussed what works about “one of the most insane true stories” he’d ever heard. The hosts agreed with Hill that it’s the rather far-fetched story of two, fairly young amateur arms dealers, who managed to score big when they landed a contract with the American government to supply weapons to troops serving in Afghanistan that makes the concept so novel and fascinating. The fact that it’s based on a true story—that of Efraim Diveroli and David Packouz—only makes it more compelling to watch.

Though “War Dogs’ glorifies people most would call bad guys and criminals (what movie doesn’t, these days?), one of the men that the film is based upon is not exactly thrilled with the movie, and has still not warmed up to its existence. This morning, Hill briefly mentioned that the inspiration for his character, Efraim Diveroli, is suing the makers of the film. However, that isn’t an entirely bad thing, said Hill. He went on to say that it is when the real-life people who inspire the characters he plays do not approve of the biographical movies that they’re doing something right.

Whether that’s true or not, one thing is for certain, the absurdity of the truth to the on-screen tale—and of course, the hilarious take on it Jonah Hill and Miles Teller will deliver—will bring many to the theaters on August 19th.
