IFC Films To Release Sundance Breakout “The Nest” In Theaters September 18

IFC Films announced today that they will release the Sundance breakout hit “The Nest” exclusively in theaters September 18th. “The Nest” is the much-anticipated follow-up film from award-winning writer and director Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) and stars Jude Law (“Captain Marvel,” “Sherlock Holmes”), Carrie Coon (“Leftovers”, “Gone Girl”), Charlie Shotwell (“Troop Zero”), and Oona Roche (“The Morning Show”). The film world premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. Law and Coon were praised for their show-stopping performances. RogerEbert says “Durkin’s script gives Coon and Law two of the best characters of their careers and both actors completely deliver,” Awardswatch adds “This is Coon’s Time to Shine,” and The Guardian says this is Jude Law “at his best.”

In “The Nest,” charismatic entrepreneur Rory (Jude Law), relocates his wife Allison (Carrie Coon) and their children Sam and Ben from suburban America to his native England with ambitious dreams of profiting from booming 1980s London. While Rory thrives chasing lofty deals in the city, Allison and the kids struggle to adapt. Once a businesswoman in her own right, Allison finds herself idle and resuming the role of housewife in a run-down mansion they can’t afford to furnish. As the eerie isolation of their new home drives the family further apart, and the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel, Rory and Allison have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage.

“We’re looking forward to releasing ‘The Nest’ in theaters this fall as Sean Durkin continues to prove what a masterful filmmaker he is, delivering career-best performances from Jude Law and Carrie Coon,” said Arianna Bocco, EVP of acquisitions and productions at IFC Films.

“The Nest” was produced by Ed Guiney, Derrin Schlesinger, Rose Garnett, Sean Durkin, Amy Jackson, and Christina Piovesan. Executive produced by Andrew Lowe, Polly Stokes, Jude Law, Ben Browning, Glen Basner, Alison Cohen, and Milan Popelka, with co-producers Kasia Malipan and Noah Segal. Developed with BBC Films, “The Nest” was financed by FilmNation Entertainment and BBC Films with further backing from Telefilm Canada. FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales.
