DVD Review: “Peppa Pig: Stars” Is Littered With Snorts And Giggles

[usr 2.5]

When it’s nighttime and the sky is full of shining stars, Daddy Pig teaches Peppa and George how to find the North Star. Then, Peppa and her family are off on an exciting boat trip down the river. And when Peppa goes to a sleepover with all her friends, they’re too excited to go to sleep.

Peppa Pig is a girl pig with a little brother named George, and a Mummy and Daddy, all of whom think it’s just hilarious to snort and burp and probably other unmentionables. Maybe it’s because they’re pigs and all. Peppa Pig explores the stars and a lighthouse and lots of other places with her family, even her grandparents, all while incessantly giggling as if no annoyance is too big or small.

In child-centric stories, the children are usually sweet, or quick to see their errors. They can ask for any absurdity such as going to Grandpa’s in the middle of bedtime, just to use the telescope to see the stars, and the parents cheerfully oblige. The animation is strictly two-dimensional and the noses of some of the animals look strangely Picasso-ish, like on the pigs and the elephants. Oddly enough, all the of the buildings are located on ridiculously high, round hills where one must be contrary to gravity just to drive up to the house.

Frankly, while the short stories might entertain children, too much snorting, giggling, noise, and ridiculous antics will likely irritate a tired, frazzled parent.
