Doug Liman’s Director’s Cut Of The Dramatic Thriller “Fair Game” Comes To Digital Oct. 23

A brand-new and timely cut of the critically acclaimed political thriller “Fair Game: 2018 Director’s Cut” arrives on Digital October 23rd.

Starring two-time Academy Award®nominee Naomi Watts(Best Actress, “21 Grams,” 2003; “The Impossible,” 2012) as real-life CIA agent Valerie Plame and two-time Academy Award®winner Sean Penn (Best Actor, “Mystic River,” 2003; “Milk,” 2008) as Joe Wilson, “Fair Game” is a riveting and relevant thriller about the truth and the lengths some will go to destroy it. Inspired by true events, Doug Liman (upcoming “Chaos Walking,” “The Bourne Identity”) delivers an appropriately timed recut of this stirring and relatable human drama on the heels of President Donald J. Trump’s recent decision to pardon national security advisor Scooter Libby, who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with revealing Plame’s identity.

When Valerie Plame’s (Watts) retired ambassador husband Joe Wilson (Penn) writes a newspaper article challenging the basis for the U.S. war in Iraq, the White House leaks Plame’s undercover status — leaving her international contacts vulnerable, her career in shambles and her life in danger. Crackling with sharp dialogue, gripping intrigue, and heart-pounding suspense, “Fair Game” is the adventure that’s so unbelievable, it can only be real.

Liman recut “Fair Game” with Academy Award®-winning editor Stephen Mirrione (Best Editing, “Traffic,” 2000) because he “was never truly satisfied with the version of ‘Fair Game’ that was theatrically released in 2010.” In an official statement, Liman goes on to say, “I knew that Naomi Watts and Sean Penn had given more compelling performances and that the proximity of making the movie to the events it portrayed had not given me the perspective of time. I owed it to myself, to Naomi, to Sean, to Valerie Plame, and to my audience, to go back in and do better.” After Trump pardoned Scooter Libby, releasing the director’s cut of “Fair Game” took on a new urgency for Liman. “I went back into the film one last time to reflect that pardon. I can now say with confidence that the film finally is finished. My hope is that audiences are reminded to hold their government accountable and remember that the actions of just one or two individuals can make a difference.”

The digital version of “Fair Game: 2018 Director’s Cut” will include an audio commentary with Valerie Plame Wilson and Joe Wilson and will be available for the suggested retail price of $7.99 for SD and $9.99 for HD.
