Celebrating Mother’s Day With Badass Ladies In Film

I love a good action film, but there is one thing I love even more: an action film with a strong, female lead that kicks ass. These leading ladies bring on the pain and serve up justice better than any male character out there — and they do it with style. Whether they’re leading a resistance, seeking revenge, or protecting their loved ones, each of these female characters demonstrates the strength, will power, and courage to get the job done. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, which means it’s time to give all the badass moms and ladies out there the respect and appreciation that they deserve. So in dedication to all of the strong, powerful women in our lives, here is a list of the most badass ladies in film.

Katniss Everdeen from THE HUNGER GAMES

The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen isn’t someone you want to mess with. Not only is she loving and caring, which shows when she volunteers herself as tribute in place of her younger sister, but she also knows her way around a bow and arrow. The skill and precision that she possesses with her weapon is unmatched, and she never fails to get the perfect shot. Katniss has her flaws: she can be a bit self-centered, self-reliant, and stubborn, but she is also fiercely determined, resourceful, and will do anything to protect her loved ones. Despite all of that, nothing is more badass than being the face of and leading an entire resistance of people against a corrupt government.

The Bride from KILL BILL

Kill Bill’s Beatrix Michelle Kiddo, also known as The Bride, is one of the greatest characters in movie history. Once a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, Beatrix decided to leave the squad and retire when she became pregnant with a baby girl. During her wedding rehearsal, however, her old squad murdered her friends and fiancé, while also shooting her in the head, putting her in a 4-year coma. Upon her awakening, Beatrix vows to kill every last member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and anyone who stands in her way. Nothing is sweeter than vengeance, right?

Su Lin from ENTER THE WARRIORS GATES

Su Lin is a princess that doesn’t need protecting. When a mysterious chest opens a gateway through time, and teen gamer Jack is transported to Su Lin’s ancient empire, he will need all of his gaming skills to defeat the barbarians terrorizing the kingdom and to protect the beautiful princess. But plot twist: Su Lin is a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need any saving. Her martial arts skills are second to none, and she proves that being a princess and being a warrior can go hand in hand. At the end of the day, the only person saving the princess is Su Lin herself.

Leia Organa from STAR WARS

Star Wars’ Leia Organa is a princess who packs a punch. As princess of the planet Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate, and an agent of the Rebel Alliance, Leia is constantly fighting and thwarting new threats to her galaxy. The badassery doesn’t stop there: she eventually becomes the Chief of State of the New Republic and a Jedi master. But let’s not forget about that iconic cinnamon bun hair. Leia has been called a feminist hero and model for other movie heroines, and it’s not hard to see why. Long live, Princess Leia.

Sara Connor from THE TERMINATOR

The most badass Mom award goes out to none other that the Terminator series’ Sara Connor. Over the course of the story, Sara transforms from a timid damsel in distress to an ass-kicking warrior and a wanted fugitive. She will sacrifice anything to ensure her son’s future, who will one day become the leader of the human resistance. Even if it means losing her own humanity, Sara will do whatever it takes to save her son. She’s a seriously tough woman who won’t let anything stand in the way of her and her goal, and we applaud her for that.

Be sure to catch “Enter the Warriors Gate” in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD starting May 5th
