Blu-ray Review: “The Tracker” Is Simply A Bore

A mysterious stranger travels to a remote village where, 15 years earlier, his wife and daughter were kidnapped.

You know there are a million and one ways to have a great time on your birthday. One of the ways that you could not have a great time for your birthday, is watching a movie that was just not good. So let’s cut to the chase, “The Tracker” is not worthwhile and is very difficult to sit through.

“The Tracker” tells the story of Aiden (Dolph Lundgren), whose family is killed while on vacation. A decade later, new information arises and Aiden puts revenge in his own hands and goes out to find those behind the murder of his family. From that little synopsis, INDEED you have seen this film over and over and over again. Honestly, I will say you can still create a compelling story even with a recycled narrative. The real issue lies when you have no attempt at being different or bringing anything worth noting to the table. I knew I was in for a tough ride when the film started with this lazy voiceover about Aiden’s upbringing. The character of Aiden isn’t anything I will remember (as Lundgren delivers the most lethargic I may have seen all year) in the next few weeks honestly and the rest is true for the rest of the characters. There are attempts to add subplots throughout the film that just unnecessarily extended the runtime. If you were to ask me right now if this was the laziest screenplay I’ve ever encountered, I would say yes.

Now my real gripe with the film lies with the direction and technical elements. Directed and co-written by Giorgio Serfani, I really do not know if he was inspired to be a part of this film. The story itself is not great but good direction can carry a film to some sort of higher level. The action scenes are honestly pitiful and seem like they took no real planning. There is a jarring shutter speed normally reserved for fighting scenes that is present throughout the majority of the runtime and it is just distracting and useless. The color grade during certain parts just looks amateurish. The score is just a bore and feels like something made with no inspiration. I am just at a loss of words now. So, in short, I am not endorsing “The Tracker.” A good word to sum this film up is just lazy. This is not the late-night movie you put on randomly, not even a guilty pleasure.
