After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death last season, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow join John Constantine and Ava Sharpe’s Time Bureau to save their world – and their legacy – from magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends who have escaped and infected history. As the Legends time-travel across historical events and encounter famous figures, they now have to contend with an added shot of magical craziness!
DC’s “Arrow” and “The Flash” have spawned many great episodes as well as careers and characters but I think their most successful creation would have to be DC’s “Legends Of Tomorrow.” The fourth season has played out and is now available on Blu-ray, complete with a ton of bonus features and even in a second playthrough is a well-rounded collection of creativity. Each episode of “Legends” is one packed with action, comedy and just an all-around good time and the fourth season is no different. What I like most about “Legends” is the collection of colorful characters who are all underdogs and the lineup is ever-shifting which brings a breath of fresh air even when your favorite hero is lost.
The series has gotten steadily better with time. The first season wasn’t bad, per se, but time travel and the amount of hilarity that goes along with it shouldn’t be overshadowed by the seriousness that fills the episodes of “Arrow” or “The Flash.” I think that with this season, the series has finally found its footing and has realized its niche. I mean, how can you take a giant demon fighting with another giant with seriousness? Or a possessed nipple? That can’t be played through without a laugh.
Another aspect the fourth season gets right is character development. With the long line of names attached to the show, designing a character arc that melds well with the overarching season plot could be difficult but “Legends” does this perfectly and most importantly, doesn’t overdo it either. You always get your favorite character and as an episode comes to a close, you are always left wanting more which is key to a series’ longevity.
