American Girl Teams Up With IndieFlix Original For “The Empowerment Project”

“The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things” asks young women to contemplate the question: what would you do if you weren’t afraid to fail? The documentary captures the incredible journey of a crew of female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower, and inspire the next generation of strong women to go after their career ambitions. It was created by filmmakers Sarah Moshman and Dana Michelle Cook.

The Empowerment Project is distributed through IndieFlix, and it is only available through school and community screenings. It has already been screened nearly 200 times around the country, and it was featured on Good Morning America in the #GirlPower series with Amy Robach. Now the film will be screened in 50 more schools and communities across the United States at absolutely no cost to the schools, thanks to a partnership with American Girl.

“We are so honored and excited to be working with American Girl to get our inspiring documentary out to more young women around the U.S.,” says director Sarah Moshman. “American Girl encourages girls to stand tall, have a voice, and dream big and that’s exactly our mission with The Empowerment Project.”

The screenings will take place in the month of October in honor of the UN’s International Day of the Girl on October 11th. The screenings will include two personal appearances by filmmakers Sarah Moshman and Dana Michelle Cook at American Girl stores in different parts of the country. The film will also be available online at indieflix.com in October.

“We are proud to partner with the filmmakers of The Empowerment Project to bring their inspiring documentary to girls across the country,” says Julia Prohaska, American Girl’s Senior Director of Brand Marketing. “The film’s spotlight on positive female role models for girls perfectly aligns with American Girl’s belief in the collective power of girls and how, together, they can become an unstoppable force for good.”

Adds producer Dana Michelle Cook, “Partnering with American Girl is a dream come true for us. Together, we believe we can spark a movement to empower the next generation of strong women in celebrating how brilliant and brave we all are, and when we join forces, no one can stop us.”
