After the award presentation, the festival will hold a special screening of his 1987 neo-Western action film “Extreme Prejudice,” which is set and filmed in South Texas and stars Nick Nolte as a Texas Ranger engaged in a showdown against his former childhood friend turned drug kingpin, played by Powers Boothe. The screening will be followed by a career-spanning conversation, with the opportunity for audience questions.
“Walter Hill is inarguably one of the greatest genre directors of all time, and it’s an incredible honor to have him join us at the festival,” says Lisa Dreyer, Director of Fantastic Fest. “He has gifted us with so many unforgettable films over the decades, and I cannot think of a more deserving filmmaker for this award.”
Hill will be the first honoree to receive a retrospective of his films at select Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide in January, featuring a curated selection that encompasses the breadth of his work. The programming retrospective furthers Alamo Drafthouse’s mission to show more movies than any theater in the world.
“Walter Hill is one of the American cinema’s greatest pulp artists,” says Jake Isgar, Alamo Drafthouse Director of Alternative Content & Specialty Programming and Fantastic Fest programmer. “Showcasing his work to audiences coast-to-coast has long been a dream of ours, and one we can’t wait to fulfill.”
