Movie Review: “Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come” Delivers An Even More Sinister Side To The Le Domas’ Family

After surviving one deadly game, Grace and her sister Faith must now outrun four rival families competing for a powerful throne – winner takes all.

Anyone who assumed Grace’s ordeal ended with the last movie is in for a surprise. “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” flings open the haunted mansion’s doors even wider, dousing the set in extra carnage, shrieks, and—most importantly—more Samara Weaving. Let’s be clear: Weaving isn’t just back as Grace; she storms onto the screen with a vengeance, solidifying her status as the ultimate final girl in horror. Her performance walks a tightrope between raw intensity and sly humor, and honestly, if you want proof she deserves a spot among modern scream queens, this is it.

From the jump, the sequel doesn’t ease in—it launches straight into higher stakes. The production value is clearly ramped up, action sequences are even more elaborate, and the bloodletting is on another level. Think you’re immune to gore? This movie will test that. The first half races ahead in a frenzy of deadly traps, double-crosses, and gruesome slapstick, all while managing to keep things inventive and darkly funny. Adam Wingard’s direction brings a wild, eccentric vibe, and the cast seems to be having the time of their lives.

Yet the real soul of the film is the relationship between Samara Weaving’s Grace and the sharp-tongued, scene-stealing newcomer played by Kathryn Newton—her long-lost sister. Newton bursts in with chaotic energy and comic timing, her playful spirit clashing and melding with Weaving’s grittier presence. Their banter and on-screen chemistry do more than lighten the mood; they ground the horror, making the danger feel even more real. Watching their reluctant alliance (and frequent squabbling) as bodies pile up is a twisted kind of fun.

The middle section does lose some of its earlier inventiveness, leaning on more familiar suspense beats. Still, the actors keep the momentum going. The supporting cast dives in with gusto: Sarah Michelle Gellar is outrageously fun as the unhinged matriarch, Shawn Hatosy and Kevin Durand deliver tough-guy threats, Elijah Wood is delightfully unpredictable, and David Cronenberg’s brief appearance is a sly treat for horror aficionados. Every actor seems to relish the madness.

While “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” doesn’t break new ground for the genre, it embraces its own wildness wholeheartedly. It’s sharper, wilder, and even more outlandish than the first film. Best of all, it gives Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton room to shine together, blending relentless violence with a sibling bond that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining. Flawless? No. Ridiculously entertaining? Absolutely.
