4K Ultra HD™ Review: “Despicable Me 4” Is Fun For The Whole Family

Gru, Lucy, Margo, Edith, and Agnes welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run.

Get ready for another hilarious adventure with Gru, his lovable family, and the always-entertaining Minions in the latest installment of the Despicable Me franchise! This time, our favorite former supervillain and his clan must go undercover to evade a new nemesis hell-bent on revenge. Expect plenty of laughs, heart, and those signature Minion antics that fans of the series have come to adore.

The story takes off when Gru’s high school rival, Maxime Le Mal, seeks payback after a humiliating encounter at their class reunion. To keep Gru and his family safe, the Anti-Villain League relocates them to a swanky new neighborhood with fresh identities. As they navigate this upscale suburban life, Maxime is hot on their trail, driven by a bizarre fascination with cockroaches. While he provides some comedic relief, Maxime feels a bit one-dimensional as a villain, serving mainly to set the plot in motion.

Meanwhile, the Minions are up to their usual zany shenanigans at the safe house and at AVL headquarters. A group of five is even recruited to become “Mega Minions,” a sidesplitting send-up of superhero culture. Fans of the genre will particularly appreciate this clever parody. With the Minions causing chaos left and right, it’s a wonder Gru and his family can keep their covers intact!

The film has lighthearted, humorous subplots that add to the fun. Gru’s awkward encounters with their new neighbor, Perry, are priceless. Lucy’s disastrous stint as a hairdresser, complete with a Terminator 2 spoof, had me in stitches. And Agnes’s inability to get the hang of lying about her new name, “Britney,” is just too cute. Keep an ear out for a fun cameo from John DiMaggio, best known as the voice of Bender from Futurama.

While the plot may be a tad predictable and the villain underdeveloped, Despicable Me 4 is still a wildly entertaining ride the whole family will love. The finale is packed with cameos that will delight longtime fans of the series. So, if you’ve enjoyed the previous adventures with Gru and the gang, you won’t want to miss this one!
